Rwanda Huye Mountain Natural - Whole Bean - 250g

North Star Coffee Roasters

Regular price £8.50

Rwanda is blessed with ideal coffee growing conditions that include high altitude, regular rainfall, volcanic soils with good organic structure and an abundance of Bourbon. The vast majority of Rwandan coffee is produced by smallholders of which there are thought to be around half a million with parcels of land often not much larger than just one hectare per family.

This washing station is well known thanks to the fame it achieved through ‘A Film About Coffee’ which was released in 2014 and documents the story of Mr David Rubanzangabo who has transformed coffee production in this area providing a fairer income to the 1,330 smallholder farmers who deliver their cherry here to be processed. David encourages and rewards selective picking each year by awarding members with the highest scoring lots with a cow or a goat to provide milk for the family and fertiliser for their coffee trees in the years to come. It has been a well-known and respected washing station since its establishment in 2011 having placed 2nd in the Cup of Excellence in 2012 and produces outstanding coffee at altitudes ranging from 1,600m to 2,300 metres above sea level.
